Dies At 80

Was Longtime Resident of Washington County: Funeral Yesterday

Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at the Herman Methodist Church for Ernest C. Geary, 80, of Herman, who died Sunday morning at the home of his son, Robert Geary. Services were conducted by the Rev. A. A. Swanson of Oakland. The Truhlsen Funeral Home of Herman had charge of arrangements and burial was to be at Cheyenne Wells, Colo., where his wife is buried.

Mr. Geary had been ill seven weeks.

Ernest C. Geary was born in England, Febr. 26, 1870. He came to America with his parents, three sisters and one brother at the age of five. They lived in Omaha and Blair for two years and then moved to a farm west of the New England School, where he grew to manhood.

He was married to Angeline Patrick on Christmas Day, 1893, and then moved to the farm on which he spent the rest of his life. Eight children were born, one dying in infancy.

In 1923 they moved to Colorado and it was there that Mrs. Geary died in 1945. Mr. Geary returned to Nebraska in 1947 and lived with sons until his death.

Survivors include four sons, Nelson of Craig, Robert of Herman, Paul of Davenport, Ia., and Philip of Kennard; three daughters, Miss Edith Geary of St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. Helen Hoos of Los Angeles and Miss Dorothy Geary of Hurley, Va.; and 24 grandchildren.

ERNEST GEARY DIES AT 80

Born In England. Funeral Services Herman Methodist Church

Funeral services for Ernest C. Geary were held in the Methodist church in Herman Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, and burial at Cheyenne Wells, Colorado beside his wife, who passed away in 1945. Rev. A. A. Swanson of the Baptist church in Oakland, Neb. was in charge. Rev. and Mrs. Ralph Williams of Fremont had charge of the music.

Ernest C. Geary was born in England February 26, 1870, and passed away at the home of his son, Robert, Sunday morning after an illness of seven weeks.

He came to America with his parents, three sisters and one brother when five years old. They lived in Omaha and Blair for two years and then moved to a farm west of New England school where he grew to manhood.

Ernest Geary and Angeline Patrick were married Christmas Day, 1893 at the home of Miss Patrick’s uncle, Rev. John Patrick, who performed the wedding ceremony. They moved to the farm on which he died. Eight children were born to this union, one dying in infancy.

In 1923 Mr. and Mrs. Geary and their family moved to Colorado. Here the mother passed away in 1945. Mr. Geary returned to eastern Nebraska in 1947 where he lived with his sons until his death.

He is survived by seven children. Nelson Geary of Craig, Neb.; Robert Geary of Herman; Edith Geary of St. Paul, Minnesota; Paul Geary of Davenport, Iowa; Philip Geary of Kennard, Neb.; Mrs. Helen Hoos of Los Angeles, Calif.; and Dorothy Geary of Hurley, Virginia. Twenty four grandchildren and many friends. The pallbearers were three grandsons, Ernest, Donald and George Geary, J. R. Christiansen of Fremont, Darrell Kuhlman and Dwain Jordan.
