Mrs. Thos. Finnell's mother, Mrs. Abby Austin Eggleston, died at the Finnell home last Saturday, March 28th, 1914, of old age, having reached her 87th year just one month to the day prior to her death. The funeral was held at the house at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon, Rev. Wm. Esplin, superintendent of the Crowell Home, officiating. Abby Austin was born near Cowlesville, N. Y., Feb. 28th, 1827, and was married to John Eggleston on Christmas day, 1846, at Alden, N.Y. Two of the four children born to them survive her, Mrs. Finnell and Orie Eggleston, of Portland, Oregon. They moved to Tekamah in 1878, where Mr. Eggleston died Aug. 11th, 1898, since which time Mrs. Eggleston had made her home with Mrs. Finnell. The body was taken to Tekamah to be laid to rest by the side of her husband. Mrs. Eggleston was a lovable and home-loving woman and made many friends since they came to Blair, despite her years. She was very much alive mentally, retaining her faculties almost unimpaired until the day of her death.
