One-Time Publ. House Board Member Is Dead

Johan S. Gebuhr, well-known building contractor of Council Bluffs, Iowa, died December 10 at the age of 85 years. He will be remembered by many older residents of the Blair area as a long-time board member of the Lutheran Publishing House of Blair. He was a director of the organization for about 20 years.

The Lutheran Publishing House, which for many years furnished most of the printed materials used by the Evangelical Lutheran Church (U.E.L.C.), occupied the building now housing the Fiesta Grande and the ASC offices. At that time the national headquarters of the church were in Blair.

Mr. Gebuhr was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, April 22, 1886. He emigrated to the United States in May, 1906.

He was a building contractor from 1915 to 1940 and a Lutheran Brotherhood representative from 1940 until his retirement in 1952.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 14 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs. Interment was in Walnut Hill Cemetery.

His wife, the former Matina Nielsen, whom he married in 1908, preceded him in death in 1967.
