JACOB P. JUDT, 90

Jacob P. Judt, 90, of Norfolk, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at St. Joseph Nursing Home in Norfolk.

Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norfolk, with Father Jim Keiter officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Norfolk.

Jacob Phillip Judt was born March 18, 1910, in Glen Ullin, N.D., to Phillip and Scholastica (Dinius) Judt. He was the second youngest of 14 children, and was orphaned at age six.

He lived with an older sister and her family until 1931, when he came to Sioux Falls, S.D., where he lived with his sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Clarence Hoien. In 1936, he moved to Madison, S.D., where he worked as a meat cutter in a grocery store.

There he met and married Marguerite “Peggy” Ruste in 1938. The couple moved to Norfolk in 1940.

He worked at General Wholesale, then as a meat cutter at Quality Inn Market. When it closed , he worked at Economy Market until his health made him change occupations. He then worked at Norfolk Office Equipment, retiring in 1990.

He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus and Sacred Heart/St. Mary’s parish in Norfolk.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Karla Judt of Lincoln, Jim and Jane Judt of Blair, and John and Chris Judt of Norfolk; three daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Dale Carstens of Herman, Jeanne and Dave Peterson and Jackie and Bill Waugh, all of Norfolk; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one brother, 12 sisters and one granddaughter.
