Wayne Armer, 84

Survived Polio, Was A Teacher And Coach

Wayne Armer, 84, of Sun City, Ariz., formerly of Blair, died March 18, 2012, in Sun City.

He was born Sept. 29, 1927, in Omaha. He was a star athlete and scholar at Omaha Technical School, 1941-45, and graduated in 1945.

He served in the U.S. Navy submarine service, 1946-48.

In August of 1948, he married G. Jeane Strampe, who also graduated with his Omaha Tech class.

He earned his BS degree in 1951 from Michigan State University and MS degree in 1952 from the University of Illinois.

He taught and coached at Omaha Tech for one year before accepting a job a Dana College, where he taught and coached track and girls basketball. Mr. Armer also taught at Blair High School.

Following a bout with polio in 1955, he continued his career as an educator; girls swim coach and counselor at Buchser High School in Santa Clara, Calif.

The couple retired to Sun City in 1992.

He is survived by his wife, Jeane; three sons; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
