Died on 4/29/1916

Published in The Pilot, May 3, 1916.

Mr. Theodore Kahler died at about 8:30 last Saturday morning, his wife having died at 6:30 Monday evening of the same week. Both died of pneumonia, which they contracted in moving into their new home and the exposures incident to cleaning it up ready for occupancy.

They moved to town on March 1st, having sold their farm to Ed Jones, and were getting ready to take their ease for the balance of their days, which were fewer than they had any reason to think. Mr. Kahler’s condition was so serious that Mrs. Kahler’s funeral was postponed and a double funeral held at the German Lutheran Church at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon, Rev. A. W. Lambrecht officiating.

Frederick Theodore Kahler was born in Hammer, Germany, June 20th, 1845, and was therefore almost 71 years of age. He served in the Franco-Prussian war in 1871 and was married to Dorothy Margaret Kelke on the 5th of May, 1873, coming to America for their wedding trip. They lived over at Missouri Valley for 27 years, moving to the county in 1910.

Mrs. Kahler was born in Meldorf, Germany, Nov. 14th, 1849, and was over four years younger than her husband. They leave three children, Joseph, of Mondamin, Ia., Theodore, of Missouri Valley, and Mrs. Otto Ley , of Wanette, New Mexico. All were here for the funeral.
