A memorial service for James L. Pettit, 75, of St. Joseph, Mo., formerly of Kennard, will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at Emmaus Lutheran Church, 404 Maple St., in Kennard.

Age 75. St. Joseph, MO. Passed away at a local hospital.

Jim was born to Lawrence and Marie (Rosenbaum) Pettit in Omaha, NE. He resided in Fremont, NE, where he graduated high school and served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1958-1964. He went to work as a Master Mechanic for Flynn-Larsen then later worked as a truck driver for Vigortone, which led him to his future wife Sylvia.

In 1981, Jim moved to St. Joseph, where he worked as a Shop Foreman and retired from Laidlaw Bus Company in Mound City, MO after seventeen years.

On June 25, 1983, Jim married Sylvia DeVore-Jeffers at their family ranch in St. Joseph. Jim had a passion for trail riding and horse camping. He also had a special love for rescuing retired racing greyhounds.

Preceding him in death are his parents, and two daughters, Pat McGuire and Sandy Larsen; one son, Dustin Jeffers and two grandchildren, Jennifer Jeffers and Russell Larsen.

He is survived by his wife Sylvia, of the home; one son, Merle (Paula) Pettit, Duluth, MN; two daughters, Della (Carl) Spain, of St. Joseph and Faith McClimans, of Sharon, PA; one sister, Betty (Glen) Vogt, of Arlington, NE; eighteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

SERVICES 1pm Wednesday, April 25th at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Kennard, NE. Interment Blakely Cemetery, Easton, MO.
