Enjoyed His Family, Church and Fast Cars

Harold P. Meierhenry, 100, of Fremont died Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at Nye Pointe Health and Rehab Center in Fremont.

Services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 30, at Calvary United Methodist Church in Fremont. Visitation will be Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time at the church. Interment will be at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

Harold P. Meierhenry was born November 9, 1911, in Telbasta, to Carl and Anna (Niederdeppe) Meierhenry.

He grew up in Telbasta and farmed north of Arlington.

He married Iola Shipman on September 10, 1933, in Havelock. They moved to Washington state in 1957 for a year before returning to farm north of Arlington.

They retired and moved to Fremont in 1979.

Iola died March 14, 2012. Harold and Iola had been Nebraska’s longest married couple, 78 years.

He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, former member of the Fontanelle Glee Club and the Telbasta Evangelical United Brethren Church where he sang in the choir and quartet and taught Sunday school and served as Sunday school superintendent. He also sang for many weddings and funerals.

The couple received the Nebraska Pioneer Farm Award from the Knights of Aksarben.

Mr. Meierhenry wrote many poems and enjoyed his family, church and fast cars.

He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, JoAnn and Orvin Scheer of Arlington, Marilyn and Phil Katt of Fremont, Judy and Vernon Geisler of Hooper; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; and brothers, Wesley Meierhenry and Vernon Meierhenry.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Calvary United Methodist Church in Fremont.

Visitation on Monday at church 1 hr prior to service. Burial at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont. Memorials may be given to Calvary United Methodist Church in Fremont.
