Viola M. H. Gerwick, 86, of Snyder, Neb., died Friday, March 7, 1997, at the Good Samaritan Center in Scribner, Neb.

Services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Snyder. Rev. Daniel Garber will officiate. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery at Snyder.

She is the mother of Lola Mae Scheer of Arlington.

Gerwick was born July 22, 1910, on the family farm southwest of Snyder to Paul and Lena (Nolte) Beck. She grew up there on the farm. She was baptized on Sept. 4, 1910, and confirmed on June 1, 1924. She attended a rural school near Snyder, and also attended St. Peter’s Lutheran School and the Snyder High School. She married Henry Gerwick June 18, 1930, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Snyder. They lived in Snyder and during the early 1940s lived briefly in Fremont, later returning to Snyder.

She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Snyder and its Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and Lutheran Laymen’s League.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Lola Mae and Melvin Scheer of Arlington; Rita and Richard Johnson of Fremont and Sharon and Tim Ash of Lincoln; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, on Nov. 28, 1986, and four brothers, Herbert, Hilbert, Harry and Alva.

Memorials may be given to Camp Luther and St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.

Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont is in charge of arrangements.
