Ronald Delynn Johnson, 61, of Forest Grove, Ore., died May 22, 2000 at the Providence St, Vincent Medical Center in Portland, Ore., of congestive heart failure.

Services were May 26, 2000. at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Cornelius, Ore., with Pastor Ron W. McCallum officiating.

Ronald was born March 4, 1939 in Minden, Neb., to Olof and Eva (Jacobs) Johnson. He was raised and received his education in Minden, and was a member of the high school class of 1957. He then attended Dana College, and graduated in 1961 with his B.A.

While at Dana, he especially enjoyed working at the library and singing in the choir. Ron toured Europe with the Dana College Choir.

He was married to Bodil Strom of Copenhagen, Denmark on July 17, 1962 in Blair.

He received his M. S. degree in library science in 1962 from Emporia State College. He served as the librarian in Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kan., from 1962 to 1966. He served as the library director at Dana College from 1966 to 1984, and during this time, he designed the new library building on campus.

He then served as the library director at Pacific University in Forest Grove from 1984 to 1992; from 1993 until his retirement in 1999, he served as the librarian/site supervisor at the Bonneville Power Administration.

He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Cornelius. He served as the president of the Blair Cooperative Preschool and as an officer of the Blair Band Boosters.

Among his special interests were music, nature, collecting stamps and coins. He also enjoyed gardening, genealogy, traveling, bowling, swimming and reading biographies.

He is survived by his wife, Bodil Johnson of Hillsboro, Ore., two daughters and their families, including Lisa Kynvi and her partner, Andey Kynvi of Bolton, Mass., and Eva and LaRoy LaBonte of Forest Grove; his sister, Jane Fecht of Axtell, Neb., and his brother and sister-in-law, John O. and Marsha Johnson of Sharon Springs, Kansas; two grandchildren and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, two brothers, and a granddaughter.

Memorials may be sent to a favorite charity; The American Diabetes Association, 380 S.E. Spokane St., Suite 110, Portland OR, 97202; to and library for the purchase of book above their normal budget; or to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 1124 S. Beech St., Cornelius, OR, 97113.

Arrangements were handled by Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home in Forest Grove.
