Funeral services were Friday, November 16, at Jones-Behrens Funeral Chapel for Wilmer B. “Johnny” Johnson, 73, of Park Rapids South Dakota, who died November 12, 1990, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Park Rapids. Rev. Jeffery Childs officiated. Burial was at Riverside Cemetery.

Wilmer B. Johnson was born July 3, 1917, to Edward and Jessie Johnson in Newman Grove, Nebraska. At the age of three, he moved with his family to Fremont, Nebraska, where he was raised and attended school.

After his high school graduation, he attended and graduated from Midland College in 1939. He then taught for four years in locations which included Salem, Hickman, and Blair, Nebraska.

On September 5, 1940, he married Marjorie Reppert in Gothenburg, Nebraska. In December, 1943, he was inducted into the United States Navy and served his country during World War II.

Upon his honorable discharge in 1946, he returned with his family to Blair where he purchased, owned and operated the Coast to Coast Hardware Store. After owning and operating it for 28 years, he retired in 1972.

After his retirement, he and his wife spent their summers near Park Rapids on Long Lake and their winters in Tucson, Arizona. He was an avid woodworker and sold a lot of his work in specialty shops around the Park Rapids area

He was a member of the United Methodist Church. He had served as a councilman in Blair, was a past member of the Blair Rotary Club and a past Blair Park Board member.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Park Rapids; one daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Leroy Carroll of Elk City, Oklahoma, and one grandson, Jay Carroll of Bemidji, Minnesota.

Arrangements were handled by the Jones-Behrens Funeral Home of Park Rapids.
