Richard Lee Gibbs, 57

Richard L. Gibbs, age 57, of Cheyenne Wells, Colorado, and formerly of Craig and Tekamah, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 14th, 1988, at the Cheyenne County Hospital in Cheyenne Wells after a lengthy illness.

“Dick” was born on May 10th, 1931, at Bancroft, Nebraska, to Glenn and Anna Mae (Brooks) Gibbs.

He was united in marriage to Edith Holm on May 20th, 1951, at Oakland, Nebraska. Dick worked for the Post Office in Tekamah and operated a gas station in Craig at one time, before moving to Colorado about 10 years ago.

He served in the U.S. Army, having spent 18 months stationed in Germany in 1952-1954. Dick was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Craig and also the Craig American Legion and was a member of the Craig Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Edith Gibbs of Cheyenne Wells, Colorado; one daughter, Sharon Wimer of Tekamah; two sons; Richard Gibbs of Sharon Springs, Kansas, and Michel Gibbs of Cheyenne Wells, Colorado; five grandchildren; his mother, Mae Gibbs of Craig, one brother, Joe Gibbs of New Brunswick, New Jersey; two sisters: Sue Anderson of Craig and Marlene Peterson of Oakland.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18th, 1988, at the United Methodist Church in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado. Local graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19th, 1988, at the Craig Cemetery with Rev. Thomas E. Robson officiating.

Local arrangements were handled by the Hamel & Peck Funeral Home in Tekamah.
