ROBERT JONES, 83

Robert Jones, 83, of Blair, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006, in Blair after a long battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Creighton. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Robert “Bob” Jones was born Aug. 3, 1923, in Winnetoon to Robert J. and Julia (Degaillez) Jones. He graduated from Winnetoon High School, attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.

He entered the Navy Air Corps during World War II and served in the Pacific.

After the war, he returned to Nebraska and was a manufacturer’s representative for several national and international firms. For the last 20 years, he was a distributor of general merchandise to stores in Nebraska and Iowa.

He was a pilot with more than 2,000 hours, a ham radio operator, a long-time Mason, member of Eastern Star (past Patron), and was a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion.

He was loved and respected by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Rhoades; daughters and sons-in-law, Patty and Bill Niehaus and sharla and Marc Splittgerber; one grandson; great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Mike B. Thompson, Marcy Thompson, Brian and Shelly Thompson.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois; and two brothers, Truman and Donald Jones.

Memorials are suggested to the Burt-Washington County Hospice, or the Blair Public Library building fund.

JONES - - Robert (Bob) age 83 of Blair. Born August 3, 1923, in Winnetoon, NE, died October 21, 2006 in Blair after a long battle with cancer. Proceeded in death by wife Lois. Survived by wife, Janet Rhoades; daughters and sons-in-law, Pattty and Bill Niehaus and Sharla and Marc Splittgerber; grandson Richard J. Valda, and great-grandchildren. A WWII participant in the Navy Air Corps in the Pacific, Bob returned to Nebraska and was a manufacturer’s representative for several national and international firms. For the last 20 years Bob was a distributor of general merchandise to stores in Nebraska and Iowa. A pilot with over 2000 hours, ham radio operator, long-time Mason, Eastern Star (Past Patron) and member of the VFW and American Legion. Bob was loved and respected by all who knew him.

Visitation will begin 10 AM Tuesday with family receiving friends from 6 – 9 PM at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Thursday at Brockhaus Funeral Home at Creighton, NE. Memorials to Burt-Washington County Hospice and Blair Library Building Fund.
