Arthur Gifford

Charles Arthur Gifford, 2431 Nye Avenue of Fremont, passed away May 26 at the age of 85 years. He is survived by his wife, Irene, one son, Donald, of Fremont, two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Marjorie) Andersen of Valley, and Mrs. Charles (Ruby) House of Arlington, eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Art moved to Arlington in 1930 and purchased an International Harvester dealership. He later added a Chevrolet dealership to his business.

He purchased the International Harvester dealership in Fremont in 1940 and moved there in 1941. He later built with three partners, the first dehydrated alfalfa mill in Nebraska and a few years later built one in Arlington. He also purchased the elevator and ran Gifford Grain and Lumber for a number of years.

Art was involved in developing or constructing over 1000 living units in Fremont and the surrounding area plus many commercial buildings.

Mr. Gifford was also a Director of the Arlington State Bank.

Funeral services will be at the First Congregational Church U.C.C. in Fremont Wednesday, at 2 p.m. with burial in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.
