Arleen Mercedes Gigstad, 88, of Blair, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, at Crowell Home in Blair.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus. Interment will be in Graceland Park Cemetery in Omaha. Visitation is from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 7, at Gass-Haney Funeral Home in Columbus; and from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 8, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus.

Arleen Mercedes Gigstad was born Oct. 24, 1911, to John and Alma (Wiig) Mortensen of Omaha. She graduated from Omaha South High School and Midland Lutheran College.

On June 12, 1938, she married Rev. Karl Gigstad. After her marriage, the couple served congregations in Hampton, Leigh and Columbus. She was also an elementary school teacher prior to working as a secretary at Columbus Community Hospital.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church of Blair.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Karleen and Bill Brown of Fredonia, N.Y.; and Elaine and Joe Sacco of Albany, N. Y.; a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Karen Gigstad of B lair; a sister, Irma Moen of Blair, eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one son, Norman.

Memorials are suggested to KTLX Radio Station at Trinity Lutheran Church, or to the donor’s choice.

Gass-Haney Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
