Elva L. Schreiner, 92, of Nebraska City, formerly of Blair, died Saturday, May 5, 2012, at the Ambassador Care Center in Nebraska City.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, at the First United Methodist Church in Nebraska City. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Tuesday at Marshall Funeral Chapel, 1109 First Corso, in Nebraska City. Interment will be in Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City.

Elva Lois Maynard was born December 20, 1919, at Elk Creek to John Albert and Mamie (Phillips) Maynard.

Her father died when she was two years old. Her mother struggled, but was very determined to hold her family together and each child graduated from high school.

She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1937, having attended Nebraska City schools all but her senior year.

She married Clarence F. Schreiner on September 21, 1939, at Seward.

The couple owned and operated the Little Diner and Western Auto Store in Nebraska City until moving to Blair in 1950. They operated the Gambles Hardware store in Blair until they retired in 1968.

She was baptized, confirmed and was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church. She enjoyed bowling, playing bridge, sewing and working in her flower garden.

She is survived by a sister, Floy Hohnroth of Nebraska City; sister-in-law, Rose Schreiner of Nebraska City; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, who died on July 28, 2007; four sisters, Aleta, Eula, Ethel and Lea; and one brother, Bill.

Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church of Nebraska City.
