Rebecca Blackburn

DIED: Mrs. Rebecca Blackburn at the residence of her daughter, in Modale, Oct. 31, 1892, aged eighty-seven years, four months and fifteen days. She was born in Westmoorland county, Penn., in 1805 and was married April 5, 1821, to John Blackburn, of the same county. They moved from there to Allegany county, Penn., in 1838, and from there to Ohio in 1850, where her husband died Dec. 12, 1856. She came from there to Iowa in 1860 with her children and settled in Harrison county, one mile south of California Junction. She made her home with her son Hiram the last twenty years of her life. She went to her daughters for a visit three weeks ago and took sick and died while there.

She was the mother of twelve children, seven of whom are living. Her daughters are Mrs. C.A. Parcel, of Modale, Mrs. Mary Ball, of Lyons, Nebr. Her sons are Cyrus Blackburn of Oklahoma, William Blackburn of Missouri Valley, James Blackburn of Fort Scott, Kan., John Blackburn of Ava, Ill. She has forty grandchildren, fifty-eight great grandchildren, eleven great-great-grandchildren. She had five sons that served in the great war of the rebellion. She united with the M.E. church in 1830 and has lived a faithful member ever since.
