Jon S. Gilbert, 59

Former Washington County resident Jon S. Gilbert, 59, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2007, after a brief illness, at his home in Palouse, Wash.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, at the Blair Cemetery.

Jon Stanley Gilbert was born March 8, 1947, to Lyle “Red” and Marion (Nielsen) Gilbert. The family farmed north of Herman until 1956, when they moved to a farm near Manson/Calhoun County, Iowa.

Mr. Gilbert graduated from Manson High School in 1965. He entered the U. S. Navy and served until his honorable discharge in 1969.

In June of 1970, he married Lorraine Frances in Connecticut.

Mr. Gilbert lived and worked in Phoenix, Ariz., from 1985 until 1994, when he returned to Nebraska. In the fall of 2005, he relocated to Palouse to be near his daughter and her family.

He was a member of the VFW, and the Operating Engineer’s Union Local No. 571.

He will be remembered for his love of the outdoors; his craftsmanship in building; and his great pride in being a grandparent.

He is survived by his son, Thomas Gilbert of Ankeny, Iowa; daughter, Karen Harris of Palouse; six grandchildren; a brother, Tim Gilbert of Friend; sister Debra Bales of Fremont; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
