Leland L. Gilbert, 66

Services were held Thursday, January 4, at the Todd Memorial Chapel in Pomona, California, for Leland L. Gilbert of Claremont, California, and formerly of Blair, who died at his home January 1, 1996. Dr. Samuel Sullivan of LaVerne, California officiated. Burial, with graveside military honors by the American Legion Post of Pomona was at Oak Park Cemetery in Claremont, California.

Leland L. Gilbert was born at Decatur, Nebraska, April 14, 1929, to Cecil and Mabel Gilbert.

He served in the United States Air Force from 1946 – 1951.

As a civilian, he was employed by Denver-Chicago Trucking Co. (Time – D.C.) based in Los Angeles, California. He was employed by Time – D.C. for over 30 years and by Consolidated Freightway for about 17 years. He had recently retired.

He was a member of Local No. 710 and Western Conference of Teamsters No. 63. He was also a member of the California Mountain Rescue Teams and of the Baptist Church in LaVerne.

He was married and had lived in Claremont for 25 years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Gilbert and two nephews, Michael Gilbert and Lance Donaldson.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia of Claremont; his mother, Mabel Gilbert of Council Bluffs, Iowa; four sisters and six brothers, Thelma Smith of Rasamond, California; Howard Gilbert of Council Bluffs; Joyce Donaldson of Fremont, Nebraska; Delores Baker of Council Bluffs; Carel Morris of Huntington Beach, California; Leon Gilbert of Springfield, Nebraska; Wayne Gilbert, Texas; Ronald Gilbert, Canada; Jerry Gilbert, Council Bluffs; Gary Gilbert, Tucson, Arizona; three adopted children, Pamela Gilbert, Blair; Kathy Gilbert, Texas; Leroy Gilbert, Colorado; a stepson, Kent Bryant; two grandchildren and a host of other relatives, including aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
