Ronald L. Gilbert, 57

Ronald L. Gilbert, 57, of Macedonia, Iowa, died Sunday, May 8, 2000, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Visitation will be 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2000, at the Hertz Funeral Home in Carson, Iowa.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 12, 2000, at Wheeler Grove United Church of Christ in Carson. Rev. Doug Tharpe will officiate. Burial will be at Carson Cemetery in Carson.

Ronald Leslie Gilbert was born August 13, 1942, in Blair. He grew up in Grand Lake, Colo., and served in the U. S. Army and Coast Guard. He married Gloria Jean Forbus on June 6, 1963.

Ronald and Gloria lived in Carson, Iowa, and later moved to Waldhof, Ontario where, in 1987, the couple purchased and operated the Waldhof Bay Lodge until 1992. They returned to Macedonia, Iowa. Ronald most recently worked as a security supervisor at Harvey’s Casino in Council Bluffs, where he was affectionately known as “Grandpa”.

Ronald enjoyed training horses, fishing and golf. He was a member of the Wheeler Grove United Church of Christ, the Kinsman’s Club of Canada, and the Lions Club of Vermilion Bay, Ontario.

Ronald is survived by his wife, Gloria Gilbert of Macedonia, Iowa; sons Randy Gilbert of Kirkland, WA, and Steve Gilbert of Winnipeg, Manitoba; granddaughters Ariel Noel Gilbert and Wren Ann Louise Gilbert of Winnipeg; sisters Thelma Smith of Rosamond, CA, Joyce Donaldson of Seattle, WA, Deloris Baker and Carol Morris of Council Bluffs, IA; brothers Leon Gilbert of Springfield, Neb., Garry Gilbert of Tucson, AZ, Gerald Gilbert of Council Bluffs, and Wayne Gilbert of Dallas, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Mable Gilbert, and brothers, Leland Gilbert and Howard Gilbert.
