Mrs. Peter Gilbertson Passes To The Great Beyond

Mrs. Mattie Gilbertson passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Guy Cook, on west Colfax street, Saturday, February 18, 1923, after an illness of several weeks, aged 77 years.

Mattie Gran was born in Christiania, Norway, December 30, 1845, and was united in marriage to Peter Gilbertson April 13, 1868. Soon after their marriage they came to American and settled in Washington county, Nebraska, where they homesteaded a piece of land near Spiker. They reared a family of eight children, and made their home here until 1900 when they retired. The husband and father passed to the Beyond in June 1912, after which time Mrs. Gilbertson divided her time among her children, and for the past several months had been with Mrs. Cook.

Mrs. Gilbertson was a most highly respected woman and had many friends who regret her passing.

She is survived by all of her children: Mrs. J. A. Trainer of Cairo, West Virginia, who has been at her bedside for some time; George Gilbertson of Niobrara, Nebr.; Fred, of Omaha; Mrs. Charles T. Daffer of Pleasant Dale, Nebr.; Ed, of Blair; Mrs. H. B. Marshall, Burnsville, west Virginia; Oscar, of Blair; Mrs. Guy Cook, Blair; and a number of grandchildren. There are also surviving two sisters: Mrs. Julia Johnson, who resides at Maskell, Nebr., and Mrs. Rebecca Bull of Ellenburg, Wash., and one brother, Halvor Gran, who resides in the state of Washington.

Funeral services were held at the Episcopal church Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. A. E. Marsh, and interment was made in the family lot in the Blair cemetery. The pall bearers were James E. Maher, James Smith, Henry Christensen, E. B. Redfield, Chas. Gaydou and Bernard Haller.

Mrs. Peter Gilbertson passes peacefully away at the home of her daughter, Mr. Guy Cook, on Saturday, February 17, 1923, after an extended illness due to declining age. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at the Episcopal Church, Rev. Marsh conducting the services. She was a patient sufferer for (?) months, taking to her bed six (?) ago. Everything loving hand(?) do for her was done until God took the tired spirit home. Mathe(?) was born in Christiania, Norway, on December 30, 1845, and was therefore 77 years of age. She grew to womanhood there and on April 13, 1868, was married to Pete Gilbertson. The young couple soon after sailed for the United States, came at once to Nebraska, settling first at Florence and then homesteading near Blair where they resided for about 25 years. In 1903 they retired from active farm life and moved to Blair where the husband father died in June, 1912. She is survived by eight children, Mrs. J. A. Trainer, Cairo, West Va.; Mrs. A. B. Marshall, Burnsville, W. Va., George of Niobrara, Neb., Fred of (?) Mrs. Chas. Daffer, Pleasant Dale, Neb., Ed, Oscar and Mrs. Guy Cook, all of Blair. Also two sisters, Ms. Chris Johnson, of Maskell, Nebr., and Mrs. R. N. Bull and one brother Halvor Nelson, both of Ellens(?), Wash.

Mrs. Gilbertson was of a quiet, retiring disposition, little known in public life, always preferring quietness of the hoe, but she (?) tan opportunity to render assistance in time of sickness and need(?) good neighbor, friend and a most (?) and living mother has been called to her eternal rest.
