Resident of Arlington and Vicinity Over 81 Years Died Thursday

Mrs. Mary C. Gilfry, 86, long a resident of Arlington and area, died last Thursday morning at her home there. She had been in failing health for several months.

Resident of the Arlington community for more than 81 years, she was born Aug. 4, 1867, at Damascus, Va., as Mary Rhea, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Rhea. In 1872 she came to Arlington with her parents. She had lived in town since her marriage to Harry H. Gilfry on June 26, 1892. Mr. Gilfry died in October, 1932.

Mrs. Gilfry was a member of the Methodist Church, the Woman’s Society of Christian Service, Golden Rule Sunday School class, Sarepta Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge, American Legion Auxiliary and the Royal Neighbors Lodge.

Surviving are a son, Rhea Gilfrey, and a brother, James P. Rhea, both of Arlington, also three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Another son, Dr. Ralph Gilfry, died in June, 1931.

The funeral was held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Arlington Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul Harris officiating. Burial, with the W. A. Reckmeyer & Son Funeral Home in charge, followed in Arlington Cemetery. Pallbearers were A. A. Hahlbeck, Otto Renard, Leo Weber, Harold Weber, Howard Edmondson and Charles Andrews.
