Mrs. Gillett Dead at 83

Blair Woman Had Resided In County Half Century; Rites Saturday

Mrs. Edna Gillett, 83, who had lived in Washington County for almost half a century, died early Thursday at her home on North Walker Avenue. She had suffered a severe fall about three weeks ago.

For ten years Mrs. Gillett had lived in the cottage on the property of her son, Marion Stricklett.

The body was taken to the Bendorf Funeral Home, where services are to be held at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. H. C. Jorgensen of First Lutheran Church will officiate with interment in Blair Cemetery.

Edna Haynie, one of 12 children of Richard and Sarah Haynie, was born in Mills County, Ia., Apr. 18, 1867. She and Fleming Turner Stricklett were married early in 1890, and to them were born four children. After Mr. Stricklett’s death, she was married to James Charles Gillett, and to this union one son was born. Mr. Gillett died in 1912.

Surviving Mrs. Gillett are three sons, Marion and Floyd Stricklett and Raymond Gillett, all of Blair; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one brother, James Alvis Haynie, 89, who is now in Blair.

Preceding Mrs. Gillett in death were a daughter, Ella Stricklett, who died in infancy, and a son, George Stricklett, killed in an accident 30 years ago.

MRS. EDNA GILLETT, 83, DIED HERE LAST NIGHT

Had Been A Resident Of This County 50 Years

Mrs. Edna Gillett, a resident of Washington County for nearly 50 years, passed away in her home on North Walker Avenue shortly after midnight on July 5. She was born in Mills County, Iowa on April 18, 1867, one of 12 children, and the daughter of Richard and Sarah Haynie. She was married to Fleming Turner Stricklett early in 1890, and to this union four children were born, Ella who passed away in infancy, James Marion Stricklett and Floyd John Stricklett of Blair and George Stricklett who passed away following an accident 30 years ago.

After Mr. Stricklett’s death at the age of 63, the wife married James Charles Gillett, and to this union one son, Charles Raymond Gillett was born. Mr. Gillett passed away in 1912, since which time Mrs Gillett has lived with her children, and the past ten years in the cottage on the Marion Stricklett property on North Walker Avenue.

She is survived by the three sons, Marian and Floyd Stricklett and Raymond Gillett, all of Blair, by one brother, James Alvis Haynie, 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at the Bendorf Funeral Home on Saturday, July 8, and burial will be made in Blair Cemetery.
