Benjamin Morgan Gilliam, 76

Memorial services for Benjamin Morgan Gilliam, 76, who died June 30, 1993, after a long illness were held Thursday, July 1 at Whittier Hills Baptist Church in Whittier, California. Graveside services were held Saturday, July 3 at Rose Hill Cemetery near Whittier.

Benjamin Morgan Gilliam was born in Blair December 25, 1916, to Mr. and Mrs. Curtis E. Gilliam. He attended and graduated from Blair High School in 1935.

He was baptized by immersion at the Blair First Christian Church when he was in his early teens. He was affiliated with the Whittier Hills Baptist Church at the time of his death.

He enlisted in the United States Army in February, 1941, and served in Saipan-Kisha, Guam, the Aleutians and Okinawa during World War II. He was discharged in 1945.

Soon after his discharge he moved to Whittier where he and Maxine Reeves, formerly of Blair were married in November, 1947.

He had been employed by the Hunt Telephone Company in Blair. Upon his arrival in California he was employed by General Telephone Company where he worked until his retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine; one son and daughter-in-law, Vinson and Karen Gilliam of Ventura, California; one grandson, Chad of Ventura; and two sisters, Vivian (Ms. Harry) Larsen of Creighton, Nebraska and Mrs. Ada Andersen of Blair.
