Pete Gilliam Was Buried Tuesday

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 17, at First Christian Church in Blair for John C. (Pete) Gilliam, 77, who died August 14, 1982, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

The Rev. Robert Evans conducted the services. Burial was in Blair Cemetery.

John C. Gilliam was born in Blair on September 10, 1904, to Curtis and Nettie Jackson Gilliam. He attended the Blair Schools. He was a member of First Christian Church in Blair. He married Cora Stricklett on November 26, 1924, at Logan, Iowa.

He was an engineer at the City Light Plant for 37 years before and after World War II. A Navy veteran of World War II, he served in the South Pacific for three years after enlisting in 1942.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Curtis, who died in 1950; one brother and one sister.

He is survived by his wife, Cora, Blair; and one daughter, Mrs. James (Wanda) Glass of Rancho Cordova, California, and a son-in-law, James Glass; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; one brother, Ben Gilliam, Whittier, California; and two sisters, Vivian Larsen, Creighton, Nebraska, and Ada Andersen, Blair, also survive him.

Pallbearers for the services were Bill Trisdale, Brady Matzen, Leonard Laaker, Ernie Stricklett, Harold Davis and Bob Richards.

Donna Ball was organist, and Lola Thompson provided the vocal music.

Campbell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for the services.
