A.J. “JACK” CROWDY DIES IN HOSPITAL

WELL-KNOWN BLAIRITE, 73, FORMER COUNCILMAN, DIED EARLY TODAY

A.J. “Jack” Crowdy, 73, well-known Blairite for almost 45 years and a member of the city council from the first ward from the spring of 1929 until resigning in November, 1930, died between 12:30 and 1 a.m. today at Immanuel hospital in Omaha, where he had been confined for several weeks.

The body was returned to the Bendorf Funeral Home here. Funeral services had not been arranged at noon, and those desiring such information have been asked to call the funeral home.

Andrew Jackson Crowdy was born May 22, 1865, in Franklin county, Indiana, where he grew to manhood. He came to Nebraska in 1894, farming a year in Frontier county before coming to the Blair vicinity to operate a farm. Except for four years spent in Burt county, he had been a resident of Blair and vicinity since 1895. He retired from active labor 14 years ago.

Mr. Crowdy and Clara Francis Pierce were married at the courthouse in Blair March 16, 1898. Their present home is on east Butler street.

Surviving Mr. Crowdy are his wife; three sons, William of Sioux City, Theodore of Blair and George of Otho, Iowa; four daughters, Mrs. Hans Lebbert of Corning, Iowa, Mrs. Victor Johnson and Mrs. B. Blume of Blair and Mrs. Sam Morning of Long Beach, California. A son, Raymond, died three years ago. Also surviving Mr. Crowdy are five sisters in Indiana.

A. J. Crowdy Dies In Omaha Hospital

A. J. Crowdy, well known citizen of this county, died this (Thursday) morning at 12:05 o’clock at the Immanuel hospital. He had been ailing for some time and three weeks ago entered the hospital for treatment.

He did not respond to the medical treatment and on last Friday was operated for gall bladder trouble.

Deceased was born in Franklin County, Indiana, May 22, 1865. He came to Nebraska in 1894 and a year later to Washington County where he has since resided.

On March 16, 1898, he was married to Miss Clara Frances Pierce at Blair and to them eight children were born, seven of whom are living. They are Wm. of Sioux City; Mrs. Hans Lebbert, of Corning, Iowa; Theodore, of Blair; George, of Otho, Iowa; Mrs. Victor Johnson and Mrs. D. B. Blume of Blair, and Mrs. S G. Morning, of Long Beach, California. These with the wife are grief stricken over their loss.

Besides the immediate family he leaves seven grandchildren and five sisters.

He was a farmer all his life until he retired and moved to Blair fourteen years ago. He was a good business man and enmassed a comfortable estate. He was strictly honest and always stood fearlessly for the principles he regarded as right.

As yet no arrangements have been made for the funeral rites and those interested are asked to call the Bendorf Funeral Home for particulars.
