Farmer Devoted Father

Burnell G. Lallman, 88, of Fremont, formerly of rural Hooper, died Sunday, May 13, 2012, at Nye Legacy in Fremont.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday May 16, 2012, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, east of Hooper. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Tuesday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont. Visitation will continue one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be in the Immanuel Cemetery.

Burnell G. Lallman was born July 28, 1923, in Fontanelle to George and Cora (Brandert) Lallman.

He attended Hooper High School but left after the death of his father to work on the family farm and help support his mother and four younger siblings.

He married Margaret Nelson on April 8, 1951, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont.

The couple farmed for 45 years east of Hooper and were faithful members of Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Hooper during that time. He did volunteer work for the church and was an active member of the Lutheran Laymen’s League.

He and his brother, Dean, raised corn, soybeans and cattle.

He was a self-taught, skilled mechanic and took pride in maintaining his farm equipment and automobiles.

He was a devoted father and supported his daughters in their interests of horseback riding and music. He loved to attend the games and concerts of his grandchildren in Nebraska, and also enjoyed visiting his grandchildren in Connecticut.

He had been a resident of Shalimar Gardens for the last four years.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Mark Laponte of Fairfield, Conn., and Cindy and Bill Morris of Lincoln; four grandchildren, Matthew and Jennifer Laponte and Whitney and Elliot Morris; sister and brother-in-law, Corrine and John Barton of Torrence, Calif.; brothers, Russell Lallman of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Robert Lallman of Blair; sister-in-law, Lynn Lallman of Omaha and special friend, Alice Bartling of Fremont.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, and one brother, Dean.

Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
