Miss Anna Christine Kahnk, daughter of August Kahnk and wife, Lena, who live southwest of Blair, very suddenly departed this life last Sunday afternoon. As the roads were extra good her parents and a number of the children drove up near Craig spending the day with their oldest daughter, Mrs. Martens and family. As all was well Anna and Mary had remained alone at home. The parents and all were terribly shocked at her sudden, sad and unexpected death. She was born south of Kennard December 26th, 1902 and was baptized in the Lutheran Church in Blair the following year. Last fall as the Rev. Werning began preaching at their school house, Peaceful Hill, she with her mother and younger sister, attended very regularly; and also the Sunday School. It is hoped she may have learned “The One Thing Needful” and thus found her Saviour, who said: “Blessed are they that hear the word of God and keep it.” Preparedness is a great necessity for all. The numerous flowers bore witness of the high respect she had received. In spite of the rain and threatening weather many attended her sad funeral Tuesday afternoon, when the mentioned Rev. delivered a short address in both languages and her body was taken to the country cemetery south of Blair. Besides her loving parents she is mourned by five sisters and six brothers: Meta, Mrs. Ben Martens, near Craig, Neb., Margaret, Mrs. Wm. Hansen, near Millard, Neb., Mary, Lillian, Clara, John, Gustav, Louie, Harry, Albert and Arthur all at home. Also relatives and many friends. Her age was a little over 21 years and 7 months.

DESPONDENT GIRL TAKES OWN LIFE

Anna, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August Kahnk, who live three miles south of Kennard, hung herself in the wash house on the home place some time last Sunday afternoon. No reason is known for her rash act except that she was despondent.

Mrs. and Mrs. Kahnk had driven up to Craig Sunday morning for a visit at the home of another daughter, leaving Anna and her Sister, Marie, to look after things at home. Marie took a nap in the afternoon and presumed Anna was getting the clothes ready for the wash the following morning.

After awaking Marie went out to the wash house to see how Anna was getting along and found the lifeless body of Anna hanging from a rafter.

Marie at once notified the Wrich brothers who live near by, and they in turn called Undertaker Campbell and County Attorney O’Hanlon of Blair.

Anna was 22 years old and had not been in the best of health for some time. She was a fine young lady with a pleasant disposition and had a wide circle of friends who with her parents and relatives will mourn her untimely end.

Funeral services were held from the Kahnk home Tuesday afternoon, with Rev. Werning of this city in charge, and the remains were laid to rest at the Germancemetery near Bennington.

The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved family in their hour of sorrow.
