George Kahnk died very suddenly last Sunday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Suverkrubbe, who lives near Bennington. His heart was bothering him some and he phoned out to Mrs. Suverkrubbe that he was afraid to stay alone in the house here in town, so they came in for him Friday. He slept up stairs and when coming down Sunday morning he fell and death resulted in a few minutes. The funeral was held at the home of another daughter, Mrs. Emil Lamp, at 2:30 this afternoon, Rev. Mr. Nussbaum, of Bennington, officiating. Burial was in the German cemetery in Richland township, where his wife was laid to rest on April 10th, only five weeks before.

Mr. Kahnk was born at Wesseburen, Holstein, Germany, July 10th, 1842, so was nearing his 82nd birthday. He came to this country in 1864, settling at Davenport, Ia. In 1867 he took a homestead in Richland township, where Tom Quinn now lives and made his home there until he moved to this city about twenty years ago. He was married to Sophia Christina Schumacher in this city January 28th, 1871, and seven children were born to them five girls and two boys as follows: William lives near Bennington, Geo. at Ruthton, Minn., Mary, Mrs. Herman H. Schneider, of Little Falls, Minn., Anna, Mrs. John Suverkrubbe, near Bennington, Christina, Mrs. Emil Lamp, who lives in Richland township, near the old home place, Emma, Mrs. Henry Luschen, of Ruthton, Minn., and Martha, Mrs. Louis Luschen, of Wellfleet, Neb.

So another home was been broken up in this city by the death of two old people within a few weeks of each other. Mr. Kahnk was a good husband and father, therefore a good citizen who will be greatly missed by many friends. He had planted his garden and it is growing nicely, but it will not be for him to harvest. The bereaved children have the sincere sympathy of all who knew and loved their parents.
