ROBERT MACE, 83

Robert “Ross” Mace, 83, of Missouri Valley, Iowa, died Monday, May 26, 2003, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Funeral services were Thursday, May 29, at Hennessey-Aman Funeral Home in Missouri Valley, with Pastor Bill Adams officiating. Interment was at Oak Grove Cemetery in Missouri Valley. Military honors were provided by the Julius F. Muller American Legion of Missouri Valley, Iowa.

Robert Mace was born Feb. 9, 1920, in California Junction, Iowa, to Elias P. and Ruth Ann (Smith) Mace. He attended and graduated from Missouri Valley High School.

On Aug. 9, 1941, he married Claire Yager.

Mr. Mace served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After his discharge, he worked as an ironworker for Local No. 21 in Omaha until his retirement in 1983. He then drove a school bus for the Missouri Valley School System. He had spent the last five months at Crowell Home in Blair. He enjoyed hunting and boating.

He is survived by his wife, Claire of Blair; sisters, Frances Christensen of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Thelma Sampson of Arlington, Texas; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Larry and Gary, and two sisters, Fern and Helen.
