Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, at the First United Methodist Church in Blair for Dr. Richard Gentry, 64, of Blair and formerly of Falls City, Neb., who died at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair Sept. 2, 1996. Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday in Gering, Neb.

Richard David Gentry, son of missionary parents Willard Max and Emily Nystrom Gentry, was born June 11, 1932, in Chungking, China. He graduated from Gering High School in 1949 and graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln in 1953. He received his Masters of Science degree in anatomy in 1955 and his Doctor of Medicine in 1957 from the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

He served as a Captain in the surgical corps of the U. S. Army from 1959 to 1961.

He practiced medicine in Falls City from 1961 to 1978 at which time the Gentrys moved to Blair where he was a family physician.

He was a charter member of the American Academy of Family Practice, and a member of the American Medical Association, the Nebraska Medical Association, the Nebraska Wesleyan Board of Trustees, and the University of Nebraska School of Medicine Admissions Committee.

In Falls City, he was a member and president of the Falls City School Board for 11 years, received the Community Service Award from the Falls City Jaycees and the Life Membership Award from the Falls City Parent Teacher Association. He was a member of the Blair First United Methodist Church and the Blair Lions Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Hunkins Gentry; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Rick Hahn of Englewood, Colo., and Carol and Paul Burns, Sanford, Mich.; sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Todd and Lois Gentry, Humboldt, Iowa, and David and Jani Gentry, Lincoln; grandchildren, Sarah Hahn and Stephen Hahn, both of Englewood; Emily Gentry, Gerald Gentry and Noreen Gentry, all of Humboldt; Samuel Gentry and Alexander Gentry, both of Lincoln and Kenneth Burns and Daniel Burns, both of Sanford; brothers and sisters-in-law, Willard and Patricia Gentry, Monument, Colorado; John and Mary Gentry of Pueblo, Colo., and Robert Gentry, Greeley, Colo., and an aunt, Alice Wibert, Gering. Neb.

Memorials may be directed to the Blair First United Methodist Church or the University of Nebraska Foundation (Scholarship Fund).

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
