Clara Eckhardt, 100, of Fremont, died Feb. 23, 2001, at Arbor Manor in Fremont.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28 at Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Hooper, east of Winslow. The Rev. Rodney Meske will officiate. Interment will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont, with the family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Clara (Neuwerk) Eckhardt was born Feb. 11, 1901, at Battle Creek to Fred and Mimmie (Ude) Neuwerk. She was baptized on March 10, 1901, and confirmed on April 17, 1914.

Prior to her marriage, Mrs. Eckhardt worked as a dental assistant.

On Dec. 5, 1920, she was married to the Rev. Ernest Eckhardt in Battle Creek. The couple lived in Gering and Scottsbluff, where Rev. Eckhardt served parishes.

In November, 1927, the couple moved to rural Hooper, where Rev. Eckhardt accepted a call to serve Immanuel Lutheran Church (east of Winslow). Following his retirement from Immanuel in 1966, the couple moved into Fremont.

Mrs. Eckhardt was a member of the Immanuel Ladies Aid and its Lutheran Women't Missionary League.

Mrs. Eckhardt is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Vera and Louis Heider of Omaha, Eunice and Thomas Carmichael of Champaign, Ill., and Dorothy and Kyle Woodbury of McLean, Va., a son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. Eugene and Letty Eckhardt of Tecumseh, Kan., 25 grandchildren, and 49 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, Neal and LeRoy, two great-grandsons, three brothers and four sisters.

Memorials are suggested to "The Lutheran Hour" and to Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont is in charge of arrangements.
