Mary Gleeson, 81

Graveside services were held at Olivewood Cemetery in Riverside, California, for Mary Florence Gleeson, 81, who died in December, 1991, of a stroke at Community Convalescent Center in Riverside.

Mary Gleeson was born in 1910 in Blair, Nebraska, and moved from Oakland to Riverside in 1939.

Her late husband, Bill Gleeson built Radio Station KPRO in 1941 and later added KPOR-FM, the forerunner to KDUO-FM, plus stations in India, Brawley and Blythe, California.

During that time, she was head nurse at Riverside Community Hospital. She was active in the California Nurses Association and the Nightingale Club.

The Gleesons sold the radio stations in 1967 and moved to the Imperial Valley where they bought Radio Station KICO in Calexico. Mr. Gleeson operated the station until his death in 1990 at the age of 92.

Mrs. Gleeson worked for El Centro Regional Medical Center from 1967 until 1981. During that time, she started the cardiology care unit and was head nurse and later she served as patient care coordinator.

Mrs. Gleeson moved back to Riverside in 1990.

She is survived by two daughters, Betty Driscoll of Santa Barbara and Mary Ann Stalder of Riverside; two sons, Gene of Glendale and Robert of Mariposa; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Love of Sacramento, California, and Ross Love of Blair and a sister, Gertrude Trumble of Papillion, Nebraska.
