Donald W. Gnuse, 75

Former Arlington resident Donald W. Gnuse, 75, of Blair, died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009, at the Fremont Area Medical Center.

Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Arlington. Visitation began Thursday, but will also be held one hour prior to service at the church.

Military graveside services will be conducted at St. Paul’s Cemetery by members of VFW Post 8332 and American Legion Post 71 of Arlington.

Donald W. Gnuse was born Dec. 18, 1933, in rural Arlington to Edward and Meta (Scheer) Gnuse. He grew up on the family farm northeast of Arlington.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955. After his discharge from the service, he worked at Sorenson Electric in Arlington.

On May 27, 1967, he married Lois Buckmaster Gentry.

Shortly after his marriage, he started Don’s Plumbing & Electric, Inc. in Arlington, which Mr. and Mrs. Gnuse operated for more than 20 years. He had been living at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Blair.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church; VFW Post 8332 and American Legion Post 71, both of Arlington; Ducks Unlimited; and the Fremont Contractors Association.

He is survived by his wife, Lois; two sons and daughters-in-law, Russell and Patty Gnuse of Cedar Bluffs, and Nick and Becky Gnuse of Saranac, Mich.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jeannie and Allen Samuels of Arlington, and Penny Burgess, and fiancé, Jim Huettner Jr. of Kennard; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene and Clarice Gnuse of Bella Vista, Ark., Robert and Ruth Gnuse of Arlington; and Eldon and Gloria Gnuse of Ashland.
