Edward W. Gnuse, 94

Edward W. Gnuse, 94, of Arlington, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, north of Arlington. The Rev. Dennis Maaske will officiate. Interment will be at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Arlington.

Visitation was held on Monday from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m., with the family receiving visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to services at the church.

Edward W. Gnuse was born on Dec. 24, 1905, in rural Arlington to William and Anna (Stork) Gnuse.

He grew up in rural Arlington, and farmed north of the town until 1961. He then founded the Gnuse Construction Company, which has built over 300 homes in the surrounding area. He moved into Arlington in 1963, and retired in 1980.

He married Meta Scheer on Sept. 25, 1932, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Arlington.

Mr. Gnuse was a member of St. Paul’s Church, where he sang in the choir for more than 60 years, served on the church repair committee for more than 16 years, and was a member of the Lutheran Laymen’s League.

He is survived by his wife, Meta; four sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Lois Gnuse of Blair, Gene and Clarice Gnuse of Bella Vista, Ark., Robert and Ruth Gnuse of Arlington, and Eldon and Gloria Gnuse of Ashland; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Raymond and Wilma Gnuse of Omaha, and Alvin and Lorraine Gnuse of Carpentaria, Calif.; a sister, Leonora Scheer of Arlington; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence, a sister, Leona Rinas; and a grandchild, Troy Gnuse.

Memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington is in charge of arrangements.

Edward William Gnuse, the son of William and Anna (Stork) Gnuse, was born December 24, 1905, at rural Arlington, Nebraska. He grew up at rural Arlington. Edward married Meta Scheer on September 25, 1932, at Arlington, NE. The couple farmed northeast of Arlington until 1961. He then started the Gnuse Construction Company, which has built over 300 homes in the surrounding area. They moved into Arlington in 1963 and Edward retired in 1980.

Edward passed from this life on Friday, September 1, 2000, at the Memorial Community Hospital at Blair, Nebraska, at the age of 94 years, 8 months and 8 days. He is survived by his wife, Meta; 4 sons and daughters-in-law, Donald & Lois Gnuse of Blair, Gene & Clarice Gnuse of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Robert & Ruth Gnuse of Arlington and Eldon & Gloria Gnuse of Ashland; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Raymond & Wilma Gnuse of Omaha and Alvin & Lorraine Gnuse of Carpentaria, California; sister, Leonora Scheer of Arlington; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lawrence Gnuse; sister, Leona Rinas; and a grandchild, Troy Gnuse.
