Elsie M. Gnuse, 96, of Arlington died Sunday, June 11, 2000, at the A. J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 14, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Arlington. The Rev. Rodney Meske officiated. Interment was in St. Paul’s Cemetery in Arlington.

Elsie M. Gnuse was born April 21, 1904, in rural Hooper to Henry and Mary (Geisler) Hagerbaumer. She grew up on a farm east of Winslow.

She married Lawrence J. Gnuse on Oct. 7, 1928, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Winslow.

The couple farmed east of Winslow until 1943, when they moved to a farm north of Arlington. They farmed near Arlington until 1965, when the couple moved into Arlington. She had lived at the A. J. Merrick Manor in Fremont for the past three years.

Elsie Gnuse was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Arlen and Marjorie Gnuse of Fremont and Eugene and Rebecca Gnuse of Arlington; a son, Verdell Gnuse, also of Arlington; a brother and sister-in-law, Harvey and Phyllis Hagerbaumer of Fremont; a sister, Leona Fuchs of Arlington, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, and by two brothers, Art and Obert Hagerbaumer.

Memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Arlington, or to the American Cancer Society.

Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington was in charge of arrangements.
