#1 Lawrence J. Gnuse, 90

Services for Lawrence J. Gnuse, 90, who died October 23, 1994, at the Fremont Care Center in Fremont, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 26 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church north of Arlington. Rev. Michael Rogers will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Paul’s Church Cemetery.

Visitation was Monday from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. and today, Tuesday from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home and for one hour at the church on Wednesday.

Lawrence J. Gnuse was born April 25, 1904, in rural Arlington. He farmed north of Arlington until 1968 when he moved into Arlington.

He worked as a carpenter for Gnuse Construction for several years and then worked for his son at Gnuse Manufacturing in Arlington.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Lutheran Laymen League and was a church elder and trustee for many years. He served several years on the Hewitt School Board of Washington County and was superintendent of St. Paul’s Cemetery for five years.

He married Elsie Hagerbaumer October 7, 1928, at Immanuel Lutheran Church east of Winslow.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Annie Stork Gnuse; a brother, Martin and a sister, Leona Rinas.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie; sons and daughter-in-law, Arlen and Marjorie Gnuse, Fremont; Verdell Gnuse, Arlington and Eugene and Rebecca Gnuse of Arlington; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Edward Gnuse of Arlington, Raymond of Omaha and Alvin of Carpentaria, California, and one sister, Lenora Scheer of Arlington.

Pallbearers will be Larry Rinas, Dalvin Scheer, Gene Fuchs, Donald Gnuse, Gorlyn Hagerbaumer and Larry Wulf.

Memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.

Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lawrence Gnuse

Arlington – Lawrence J. Gnuse, 90, of Arlington died Sunday, Oct. 23, 1994, at Fremont Care Center.

He was born April 25, 1904, in rural Arlington. He farmed north of Arlington until 1968, when he moved into town. He worked as a carpenter for Gnuse Construction and for his son at Gnuse Manufacturing, both of Arlington, for several years.

Gnuse was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Lutheran Layman’s League, was a church elder and trustee, served several years on the Hewitt school board in Washington County and was superintendent of St. Paul’s Cemetery for five years.

He married Elsie Hagerbaumer Oct. 7, 1928, in rural Winslow. She survives.

Other survivors include three sons, Arlene of Fremont, Verdell and Eugene, both of Arlington; three brothers, Edward of Arlington, Raymond of Omaha and Alvin of Carpentaria, Calif.; and a sister, Lenora Scheer of Arlington; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Gnuse was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, north of Arlington; The Rev. Michael Rogers will officiate. Visitation will be 5-9 tonight and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington and an hour before the service at the church. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Memorials have been established to the church and American Cancer Society.
