After an illness of about ten weeks with cancer of the bowels, Joe Gochenouer passed peacefully away at 9:30 Monday evening, having been conscious up until the last few moments. The funeral was held at the Episcopal Church at 2:30 this afternoon, Rev. A. E. Marsh officiating.

Mr. Gochenouer was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Sept. 12th, 1854, and was therefore nearing his 63rd birthday at the time of his death. His people moved to Illinois and later to northern Iowa, coming to this city in 1895, which has been his home ever since.

He was married to Miss Petra Therkelsen in October, 1900, and to them were born two sons, Bruce and Clarence, who with the wife survive him.

His father, A. Gochenouer, is still living and one full sister, Mrs. Albert Steavens, who arrived in Blair a few weeks ago from Sweetgrass, Mont. He is survived by six half-sisters, Mrs. O. M. Ireland, Mrs. Jas. Trimble, of Kadoka, S. D., Mrs. John Dixon, of Logan, Ia., Mrs. Lou Latta, Mrs. Gilbert Hines and Mrs. Grant Garner, of this city.

Mr. Gochenouer had been the trusted carrier of Uncle Sam’s mails to and from the depot and the post office for a good many years and only gave up the work when the fatal disease from which he was suffering had approached so far he was compelled to do so.

The entire community sympathize with the bereaved family in their great sorrow.

Joe Gochenouer, who had been a sufferer from cancer of the stomach, passed away at his home on West Front Street at an early hour on Monday morning, June 18, 1917. He had been poorly for some time and had been confined to his home for the past two months.

Joseph Gochenouer was born in Warren County, Ohio, on Sept. 12, 1854. He came to Nebraska and located in Blair in 1895. He was married in October, 1900 to Miss Petra Therkelsen, and to this union two sons, Bruce and Clarence were born. He is survived by his wife, two sons, his father, Adam Gochenouer, one sister, Mrs. Stevens, of Sweet Grass, Mont. and six half sisters, Mrs. O. M. Ireland, Mrs. Jas. Trimble, Mrs. Lou Latta, Mrs. John Dixon, Mrs. Gilbert Hines and Mrs. U. G. Garner.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. E. Marsh from the Epscopal Church at 2:30 on Wednesday afternoon.
