The news of the death of Mrs. Carrie Jones at the home of her daughter, in Omaha, came to Blair friends and neighbors as a shock and surprise, as it was not generally known that she was in so serious a condition.

Mrs. Jones went down to Omaha to spend the holidays and was taken ill in January with the “flu”. Complications added to this terrible disease, caused her death early Wednesday morning, March 26.

Carrie Morton was born at Toulon, Ill., Sept. 5, 1857 and was therefore past sixty-six years of age. She was married Dec. 23, 1877 to Herbert Leslie Jones, whose death occurred thirteen years ago in August, 1911.

The family came to Nebraska directly to De Soto in 1882 and lived on the farm and also in Blair alternately for over forty years.

There are five children, all of whom were present at her bedside during her last hours. They are Mrs. E.A. Landers of Omaha, Mrs. W.W. Smith of Fort Calhoun, Edgar L. of Emerson, Herbert L. of De Soto and Josiah E. of Chinook, Mont.

Funeral services were held this afternoon, Thursday, March 27, at 2:30 from her home, Rev. A.D. Smalley of the Baptist church of this city officiating. The pall bearers were old friends of the family and are Harold Stewart, Orval Scheffler, Chris Winters, Bruce McMillan, Herman Struve and Geo. McQuarrie.

Mrs. Jones was a member of the local W.R.C. and many of the members were present at the services.
