Edwin Lee Jones, 45, of Fairbury, died Jan. 3, 2002

Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at First Baptist Church in Fairbury with pastor Robin Stoops officiating. Interment was at the Fairbury Cemetery.

Edwin Lee “Punky” Jones was born July 25, 1956, in Fairbury to Arthur f. and Rosa Opal (Hill) Jones. He graduated from Fairbury High School in 1974.

On Feb. 14, 1975, he married Donna Marie Adams in the United Methodist Chapel. The couple has two children.

Mr. Jones was employed for 25 years by the City of Fairbury Street and Alley Department.

He enjoyed having coffee every day with his many friends, and spending time with his family in Blair.

He loved watching the car races at Beatrice Speedway every Saturday night during the summer. Mr. Jones and his son, Scott, spent many long hours this past summer working and getting the Jefferson County Speedway ready for the races. They watered the racetrack for every race.

Mr. Jones also enjoyed bowling for the travel league and the Thursday night men’s league as a fifth man. He and his daughter, Christy, bowled in the Family Twosomes, where they qualified for state.

Mr. Jones and his son did lots of work for neighbors, removing snow and mowing yards. He loved to go out and look for deer early in the mornings.

Mr. Jones was a member of the Elks Club.

He is survived by his wife, Donna, daughter, Christy, and son, Scott, his mother, Rosa Jones of Fairbury, and three brothers and sisters-in-law, Loren and Linda Jones of Blair, Jay and Lucy Jones of Fairbury, and Le Roy and Patty Jones of Chester.

He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Jones.

Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangement.
