Marion D. Jones, 53, of Fremont died Saturday, Feb. 14th, 2009, at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha due to complications with cancer.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, at the Arlington Community Church. Following the service, the United States flag will be presented to the family by the American Legion Post and the VFW Post of Arlington.

There will be no public viewing.

Marlon D. Jones was born Nov. 14, 1955, in Fremont to Kenneth and Mary (Johnson) Jones. He grew up in Arlington and graduated from Arlington High School with the Class of 1974.

He enlisted in the United States Navy, serving with the Sea Bees from 1974 to 1977. He returned to this area, and began working at Valmont. In 1984, he reenlisted and retired from the Navy Sea Bees in 2001. He served in many locations all around the world. Following his return to Fremont, he worked in maintenance for Nye Square/Nye Court.

Mr. Jones was a member of the Arlington Community Church. An excellent woodworker, he had made many pieces for his family and friends. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, and he was an avid Cornhusker fan. He was particularly close to his granddaughter.

On April 30, 1977, he married Susan Livingston in the First United Methodist Church in Fremont. His wife survives him, as does a daughter, Jamie Jones of North Bend, and her significant other, Jesse Halladay; three sons, Cameron Jones of Lincoln and fiancée, Shannon Meyer, A.J. Jones, also of Lincoln, and Mike Jones of Fremont and fiancée Emily Eldridge; one granddaughter; mother, Mary Jones of Arlington; sisters and brother-in-law, Peggy Tonjum of Beloit, Wis., Becky and Tom Bartley of Oakland, and Robin and Randy Millie of Fremont; mother-in-law, Marilyn Livingston; brother-in-law, Doug Livingston; and sister-in-law Shari and Steve Smith, all of Fremont; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth; infant sister, Patty; father-in-law, Don Livingston; and two brothers-in-law.

A memorial will be established later.

Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont is in charge of the arrangements.
