Theodore Gene “Ted” Going, 67

Services for Theodore Gene “Ted” Going, 67, who died June 30, 1994, at the Oakland Memorial Hospital in Oakland, Nebraska, were Sunday, July 3, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Lyons, Nebraska. Rev. Calvin L. L’Heureux officiated. Burial was in the Lyons Cemetery with military graveside rites performed by the Robert Klase Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7998 of Lyons.

Theodore Gene Going was born August 21, 1926, to Theodore L. and Olga A. Eggert Going at Lyons. He was baptized September 12, 1926, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Lyons by Rev. Lambrecht and was confirmed March 17, 1940, by Rev. J. Harms at St. John’s Lutheran.

He graduated from Lyons High School in 1944 and served with the United States Navy during World War II.

He coached youth baseball for 22 years, served with the Lyons Volunteer Fire Department for 26 years, was on the Lyons Public School Board of Education for seven years and was a member of Hain Flynn American Legion Post No. 154 in Blair. He had worked at and later owned the Lyons Lumber Company in Lyons and worked for S. E. Smith Lumber in Blair until retiring and moving back to Lyons in 1990.

He married Nina Davis at St. John’s Lutheran Church June 17, 1948, by Rev. Freiburger.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Harold.

He is survived by his wife, Nan; children, Curtis Going of Santa Barbara, California; Sandra (Mrs. Ted) Schafersman of Fremont, Nebraska; Cary Going and his wife, Angela of Espanola, New Mexico and James Going of Orange, California; four grandchildren, Chris Schafersman, Kari Schafersman, Montana Going and Chamisa Going; a sister, Lois (Mrs. Norman) Geisler of Fremont and a brother, Myron Going and his wife, Hazel of Tekamah, Nebraska.

Erma L’Heureux was organist.
