Helen I. Goldberg, 69

Helen I. Goldberg, 69, died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005, at her home in rural Bennington.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Bennington. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Fontanelle Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, at the Haden-Golden-Reichmuth Mortuary in Bennington. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Visitation will also be held at the church on Saturday, one hour prior to services.

Helen I. Goldberg was born March 26, 1936, in Fremont to Fred and Helen (Luther) Wilds. She grew up in Fremont and was raised by her grandmother, Hannah Luther, when her mother died in childbirth. She attended Fremont High School.

On May 8, 1953, she married Robert Goldberg in Blair. After her marriage, she lived in Fremont and Rogers, and then moved to Bennington in 1964.

She enjoyed family and friends, cooking, canning and is remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother and homemaker.

She was a member of St. John’ Lutheran Church in Bennington, but was baptized and confirmed at Sinai Lutheran Church in Fremont, where her grandmother Luther’s family was among the founding members. She was a member and secretary for many years of the PTA at Bennington. She was a Cub Scout den mother for several years. She also wrote articles for the Douglas County Gazette, and had worked for J. C. Penney’s in Omaha.

She is survived by her husband, Bob; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Curt Frost of Omaha, Judy and Randy Hokamp of Arlington, and Julie and Jeff Hayden of Bennington; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother, Alpha Wilds; son, Stephen Goldberg; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Carrie and Clarence Goldberg.
