Mary E. Jones, 78

Mary E. Jones, 78, of Arlington died Monday, June 25, 2012, at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha.

Services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 30, at the Arlington Community Church. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Friday at the Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., and one hour before the service at the church in Arlington. Interment will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

Mary Ellen Johnson was born February 14, 1934, to Carl Harry and Laura "Ethyl" (Manzel) Johnson in Fremont.

She started school at Garden City School and graduated from Fremont High School's class of 1952.

She worked at Fiehn’s Camera Shop and a short time with Hormel’s.

She married Kenneth Eugene Jones on February 14, 1954. The family made their home in Arlington and were members of the Arlington Community Church.

While her children were young she worked with the Arlington Public Schools and did a short stint broadcasting the Arlington news on KHUB.

She made many friends during her employment at JC Penney and Pendleton Woolen Mills. After leaving Pendleton, she made draperies with her sister, Dee, for area decorators. She finished her working career at Country Traditions Quilt Shop in Fremont.

She enjoyed summer camping vacations and traveling. Her favorite pastimes were quilting, reading, and participating in a monthly craft club with family and friends. She was a volunteer for several years with the Arlington Public Library and had many friends there as well. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved the company of her grandchildren and always enjoyed hearing from them.

She is survived by three daughters, a daughter-in-law and sons-in-law, Peggy Tonjum and friend Joe Rebman of Beloit, Wis., Becky and Tom Bartley of Oakland, Robin and Randy Millie of Fremont and Susan Jones of Fremont; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and expecting one soon; sister and brother-in-law, Dolores and Clarence Arbaugh of Fremont; and brother and sister-in-law, Roland ‘Bud’ and Karen Johnson of Fremont; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Eugene Jones; son, Marlon David Jones; infant daughter, Patricia Louise Jones; granddaughter, Katie Jo Snyder; and son-in-law, Tom Tonjum.
