Leonard L. Goreham Sr., 77

Leonard L. Goreham Sr., 77, of Fremont, died Monday, June 24, 2002, at Arbor Manor in Fremont.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 28, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont, with the Rev. Philip Vance officiating. Interment will be in the Blair Cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of VFW Post No. 854 and American Legion Post No. 20.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, June 28, at Moser Memorial Chapel.

Leonard L. Goreham Sr. was born Feb. 13, 1925, in rural Blair to Louis and Meta (Gasser) Goreham. He grew up on a farm west of Blair, and was a 1942 graduate of Blair High School.

He served in the U. S. Army during World War II, from Aug. 30, 1945, to Jan. 13, 1947, and was stationed in Germany.

After his discharge from the Army, he moved to Fremont, where he was employed as an auto mechanic. He worked for Holger “Shorty” Anderson, then Dan Andersen, and finally for Grid Auto until his retirement in March 2000.

On Sept. 2, 1948, he married Mabel I. Sheets in Blair.

He was a member of American Legion Post No. 20 of Fremont; was a life member of V. F. W. Post No. 854 of Fremont; member of the National Rifle Association; and was a 35-year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 200 at Fremont.

He is survived by his wife, Mabel; son and daughter-in-law, Leonard Jr. and Elaine Goreham; daughter and son-in-law, Iris and Paul Mittura; brother and sister-in-law, Leo and Inez Goreham; and sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and Wilford Sheets; all of Fremont; four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

The funeral for Leonard I. Goreham Sr., 77, of Fremont will be 10 a.m. Friday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont.

He died Monday, June 24, 2002, at Arbor Manor in Fremont.

He was born Feb. 13, 1925, in rural Blair. He grew up on a farm west of Blair. He was a 1942 graduate of Blair High School. He married Mabel I. Sheets Sept. 2, 1948, in Blair.

He was a member of American Legion Post 20 of Fremont, a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 854 of Fremont, National Rifle Association and was a 35-year-member of the fraternal Order of eagles Aerie 200 of Fremont.

Survivors include: his wife; a son, Leonard Jr. (and wife, Elaine) Goreham of Fremont; a daughter, Iris (Mrs. Paul) Mittura of Fremont; a brother, Leo (and wife, Inez) Goreham of Fremont; a sister, Darlene (Mrs. Wilford) Sheets of Fremont; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Phillip Vance of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont will officiate Friday’s service. Visitation will be noon to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. until service time Friday, all at the funeral home. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of V.F.W. Post 854 and American Legion Post 2. Burial will be in Blair Cemetery in Blair.

A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society.
