EDW. F. LAAKER DIED SUNDAY OF HEART ATTACK

Had Shown Horses At A Number Of State Exhibitions

Edw. F. Laaker of Arlington died shortly after noon Easter Sunday as a result of a sudden heart attack. He had been seated at the desk in Dr. P. L. Cady’s office chatting with a neighbor, and was seemingly in good spirits; his lifeless body was found there a short time later by his brother, Ernest.

He was a great lover of all animals and of horses in particular. He had a wide acquaintance among livestock men throughout Nebraska and in surrounding states where he had shown horses at several state fairs over a period of years. Prominent among the floral offerings at his funeral was a large horseshoe of roses and carnations given by friends in memory of his great love of horses.

The son of Herman and Deena Laaker, Mr. Laaker was one of seven children. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on February 23, 1886, coming to Arlington when a small child and spending practically all of his life in that community. For the past twenty six years he had been employed by Dr. Cady and made his home with the Cady family. Previous to that time, he was employed by the late Fred Heuerman and also the Rhea Brothers.

The deceased never married; survivors are two brothers, Ernest and Fred Laaker, both of Arlington. Three nephews also survive, Glen and Leo Wisner of Fremont and Arthur Hitchcock of Lusk, Wyoming.

Funeral services were in charge of Reckmeyer and Son and with Rev. Harold J. Larimer of Arlington Congregational Church with Rev. Harold J. Larimer officiating. A large number of friends attended. Rev. and Mrs. Lorimer, with Mrs. Alice Newcom as accompanist, sang “Still, Still With Thee” and “Fade Each Earthly Joy”. Pallbearers were J. P. Rhea, Fred Heuerman, Chester Gaines, J. C. Krajicek, Bernard Decker and Eli Hetrick. Burial was made in the Arlington cemetery.
