The funeral for Betsy Anne (Hovendick) Norton, 70, of Fremont, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont.

Betsy died Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at her home.

Betsy was born Dec. 20, 1940, on the family farm near Herman, to Paul J. and Betty (Merriman) Hovendick. She graduated from high school in Creighton. She was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ogallala by Pastor Juraine Hornig. After moving to Fremont, she was confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church as an adult.

She worked as a secretary for more than 20 years in the Los Angeles County School District. In 1976, Betsy moved back to Fremont and worked at Hormel as an executive secretary until retiring.

Her hobbies included being an avid reader, jigsaw puzzles, gardening, collecting antique eggs and painting. She was a regular blood donor. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and her family was very important to her.

Survivors include: her mother, Betty J. Hovendick of Fremont; two sisters, Kathy (and husband, Tom) Bartels of Fremont, Susie (and husband, Gary) Gieschen of Brule; three nephews, Jon Sucha of Fremont, Tim Gieschen of Gering, Jason Gieschen of Ogallala; two nieces, Joan (and husband, John) Hornig of Elkhorn, Kathleen (and husband, Stacey) Bauer of Ogallala; six great-nephews, Jon E. Sucha, Adam Hornig, Ethan LeGrande, Samuel Bauer, Timothy Bauer, Dane Gieschen; seven great-nieces, Mary (and husband, Pat) Daly, Anna Hornig, Elizabeth Hornig, Amanda LeGrande, Kayla LeGrande, Taylor LeGrande and Drew Gieschen.

Betsy was preceded in death by her father, Paul J. Hovendick, and brother, Paul H. Hovendick.

The Rev. Michael Thomas will officiate Monday's service. Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.
