Enid E. Hood, 84

Enid E. Hood, 84, of Carrollton, Texas, formerly of Blair died at her home on Sunday, June 24, 2012.

A family memorial service will be July 1 in Fort Worth, Texas.

Enid Elaine Barington was born May 18, 1928, to Earl and Margery Barington at the home on Hill Farm near Niobrara.

She attended country school in the hills of Niobrara and then graduated from Niobrara High School.

She then taught school in the same country school that she attended while continuing to live at Hill Farm.

She married John Ellingson in Yankton, S. D., in 1945.

They lived in Niobrara then moved to several different locations in Nebraska as Mr. Ellingson worked for the Chicago and North Western Railroad and was required to move and work at several railroad locations.

They raised their family in Blair and Norfolk. While living in Blair, they owned and operated the Topper Café. She worked for Safeway and later worked for Huntel in Blair.

While living in Fort Calhoun, she worked at Wilkinson Manufacturing in their aluminum division, and picked up the nickname of “Sam”.

She retired in Holyoke, Colo., with Harlan Hood, whom she married in Blair in 1975. She purchased her daughter Diane’s home, and shared her life with many wonderful friends.

Each place where she lived, she continued her love of flowers and gardening. Every home had a large room or rooms for indoor plants and flowers. The yard always had an elaborate display of flowers, special planters and yard art.

She loved being around her grandchildren, having them visit and seeing them at their various activities.

She never met a stranger. All that knew her loved her.

Three and a half years ago she moved to Cheney, Kan., and in February 2011, she moved to Fort Worth where she lived at Cobblestone Manor.

In September of 2011, she fell and broke her hip and her health continued to deteriorate.

She is survived by her sons, Jim Ellingson and family of Fort Worth and Mike Ellingson and family of Goddard, Kan.; her daughter, Lori Alexander and family of Carrollton, Texas; grandchildren, Shaylah and Raini of Fort Worth, Eann, Evan and Ethan of Goddard; and great-grandchildren, Treyten, Tyler, Nia, Jordan, Lainey and Cayn of Fort Worth.

She was preceded in death by husbands, John Ellingson and Harlan Hood; and her daughter, Diane McGee.
