Joel D. Nichols Sr., 73

Former Blair resident Joel D. Nichols Sr., 73, died June 22, 2003, at Longview Nursing Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Thursday, June 26, at Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home in Council Bluffs with the Rev. Kim Crummer officiating. Interment was in the Grange Cemetery in Honey Creek, Iowa.

Joel D. Nichols was born May 10, 1930, in Omaha to Charles and Pearl (Ham) Nichols.

He graduated from Omaha Tech High School in 1948, and was a member of the Navy Reserves.

He was a truck driver for Watson Brothers Trucking for 10 years and for ANR Trucking (formerly Graves Truck Line) for 26 years, retiring in 1990.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Blair; the American legion; Blair Eagles Club; was a Third Degree Mason and was a member of the A.F.&A.M. Masonic Lodge in Honey Creek.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mildred (Gorball) Nichols of Blair; sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Roxanne Nichols of Omaha and Joel Jr. and Marcy Nichols of Abbottstown, Penn.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Erma Nichols of Omaha.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sons, an infant, and Ronald Nichols.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
