Death of a Blair Physician

Dr. E. S. Noble died today from inflammation of the bowels. He had been sick about one week. It is thought he was hurt internally a short time ago by being thrown out of a buggy when his team was running away.

On last Saturday the citizens of Blair were somewhat surprised at the announcement of the death of Ed S. Noble which occurred early in the forenoon of that day. While a large number knew of sickness, still it was understood that he was not considered dangerous, which was correct, until but a few hours before he died.

As will be remembered, some six weeks previous to this he was thrown from a buggy and it is very probable that death was the final result of the fall he received at that time, although he was only confined to his bed about eight days before his death.

Dr. Noble was born Nov. 1, 1853 in Markham Ontario, Canada, moved to Iowa with his parents in May of 1870 where he lived for ten years, coming to Blair in the fall of 1880, which place has been his home ever since. He was married to Miss Nellie R. Chapman, of Onawa, Iowa, January 17, 1882, and on April 3, 1890, he graduated with honors from the Ontario Veterinary College, since which time he has been in the practice of his profession in this city and county. He leaves a wife and one son, George, aged ten years, besides father, mother, one sister, and four brothers to mourn.

The funeral was conducted from the residence at 3 o’clock Monday afternoon by Rev. Thos, D. McLean, of the Congregational church, and was attended by a large concourse of sympathizing friends. The body was buried in the Blair cemetery.

Died at his residence on Grant street in this city on Saturday, Sept. 23rd, 1893 of inflammation of the bowels and other causes, Dr. Edward S. Noble, aged nearly 40 years.

Dr. Noble was born in Markham, Ont., Nov. 1st, 1863, and moved with his father’s family to Onawa, Iowa, May 29th, 1871, where he continued to reside until the autumn of 1880, when he came to Blair, Neb., and commenced the grocery business in the Monroe Block with his brother Park. Upon its discontinuance, he was engaged in business in Blair until about 1880, when he went to the Ontario Veterinarian college at Toronto, where he took a thorough course of study as a veterinarian and graduated with honors. Upon graduating, he returned to his home in Blair and has been engaged in the successful practice of his profession. On the first organization of the Nebraska Veterinarian Association about three years ago, he was made its first president, in which capacity he served two years, and at the time of his death was its secretary. He has done much work in the Associates and has been the strong factor in its success from the beginning.

He was married in Onawa, Iowa, to Miss Nellie Chapman about the year 1880, and leaves her his widow and one son about ten years old, his father and mother, four brothers and one sister to mourn his loss.

Dr. Noble was fast making his strength as a horseman felt at fairs and speed trials, as a starting judge in races, in which capacity he excelled.

About six weeks ago he was thrown from his buggy while engaged in his practice in the county, near the premises of Mr. Peter Reech, receiving a spinal injury, and about one week ago was taken with inflammation of the bowels. The trouble found its way to the injured spinal column and his head, producing death as above stated.

He was also at the time of his death a member of the Noble Diphtheria Company. His funeral was conducted at the home with appropriate religious exercises on Monday afternoon, from whence his remains were taken for interment. He was a very popular and influential gentleman and will be greatly missed in the large circle in which he was known in both Nebraska and Iowa.
